THE SWIM IS DOCUMENTED

In our last blog, we felt there were too many people who could not believe Julia went swimming in the lake last week. To throw water, so to speak, on any of you "doubters" out there Julia did it again, albeit with a swim suit on.
We headed down to the dock at about 2pm on March 21, armed with a sudoku, a crossword puzzle, a cup of tea, a bottle of Birra Moretti and a camera. We basked in the sun...the temp was 26C, perhaps a bit cooler on the dock...and enjoyed the start of spring.
With some coaxing from the photographer, Julia again made a splash. Admittedly, her svelte figure made a rather feeble splash, but it left the lake ice undisturbed allowing me to take a picture to prove that in fact she did go swimming with ice all around.
Lake of Bays is known by many as a very special lake. It's quiet, clean and largely undiscovered compared to the other Muskoka lakes. It's so clean that we took a picture of the bottom of the lake from our dock. You can see our reflection on the water surface, however the bottom is almost 6 feet down and it is as clear as a bell.

TURKEYS, BEES AND A SWIM

It's March the 18th, it's 23C outside and winter is over! If the weather continues on this way the ice will be out by the end of the month. It has already begun to turn darker which is the first sign that it is deteriorating. And with the darkening, the heat from the sun gets absorbed and the ice melts that much faster. We tried snowshoeing on our trails yesterday but most of the snow gone there as well.
In typical Julia style, she was the first to swim Lake of Bays in 2012, diving into the water at the end of the dock on March 17. Was it cold you ask.......is the pope catholic?
Earlier that day we spotted a small group of turkeys taking a Saturday morning stroll across our beach. Our bees have been buzzing with all this warm weather. So today Julia took the lids off of the hive to see how they are doing and to give them an bit of extra food for spring. Yesterday we were at Hidden Valley running a spring race event for the bunch of young racers including a contingent who traveled up from Barrie.
It is just amazing how things look. What is going on here with the weather? Although the ground is a somewhat soggy now, it won't be long before everything will be ready for a nice spring getaway to Foxwood!
